JERZY CICHOCKI is Music Director of the Victoria Scholars. He also holds a position as resource specialist in vocal and instrumental music with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. From 1986 to 2016, he served in various capacities – as artistic director, principal choir conductor, organist, teacher – at St. Michael’s Choir School in Toronto. His academic and professional credentials include degrees from the University of of Toronto (BMus, BEd), where he studied music and education, and from Yale University (MMA, MMus, DMA), where he specialized in choral conducting. He also holds associateship diplomas in organ and piano performance, and is an associate of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.
For many years, Dr. Cichocki served as artistic director and senior conductor of St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica in Toronto. He has performed with the Canadian Sinfonietta, Elora Festival Singers, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Toronto Philharmonic, and True North Brass. He has also presented workshops across Canada for different musical organizations. His 2016 publication entitled With Angels and Archangels (co-edited with Dr. Christopher Ku) is a collection of works that represent the tradition of Christian hymnody of the last 1700 years.
